“Het lijkt alsof iedereen een handboek heeft met sociale regels en ik ben overgeslagen. ”
- Loubna el Yandouzi
In 'Aut There', Loubna offers an intimate perspective on her life with autism, taking the viewer into her inner world. In a cinematic manner, she shares her experiences with loneliness, friendship, sensory stimuli, and hyperfocus. The documentary follows Loubna on a road trip with her mother and is interspersed with conversations with other significant people in her life, including her high school mentor, best friend Radwa, and colleagues from Zouka.
Diversity and self-acceptance: 'Aut There' breaks stereotypes and shows that autism is diverse. Loubna highlights the misconceptions surrounding autism and the challenges faced by women with autism, especially those of color. Loubna spent years (unconsciously) finding ways to mask her challenges, resulting in a late diagnosis. The documentary is intended for anyone who feels different and for women with a multicultural background who could not previously identify with autism in the media.
